Choose one Chungnam base before choosing sights
Chungcheongnam-do is not one compact destination. Gongju and Buyeo are the natural pair for Baekje history; Boryeong is a west-coast choice; Geumsan is inland and known for ginseng culture. Trying to connect all four by local transport in one day creates more waiting than sightseeing.
| Gongju | Best first base for Gongsanseong Fortress, royal-tomb heritage and a walkable history-focused day. |
|---|---|
| Buyeo | Choose it for a deeper Baekje route and a slower museum-and-heritage pace. |
| Boryeong | Plan around the coast and seasonal events. Festival weekends require early transport and accommodation checks. |
| Geumsan | A specialist stop for ginseng markets and local food culture, better added to an inland route than a west-coast day. |
Transport details that change the plan
- Compare the intercity terminal with the actual attraction entrance; the final local transfer can be the longest part.
- Save return departures before leaving the terminal, especially on weekends.
- During festivals, expect full buses, traffic and temporary walking routes.
