Find your starting point
Chungcheongbuk-do is a starting point for slower inland travel. Our first city guide focuses on Jecheon, where lake scenery and local transfers shape the pace of the trip.
Begin with Jecheon and a focused Cheongpung Lake outing.

Where to go in Chungbuk

Jecheon 제천
Jecheon is a quieter choice for lake scenery and wooded hills. Cheongpung Lake is a natural focus for a slower trip; check local transfers because lakeside attractions are not all near the railway station.
Explore Jecheon →Jecheon or Danyang: choose your main landscape
| Base | What to build around | First planning decision |
|---|---|---|
| Jecheon (제천) | Uirimji Reservoir or the Cheongpung lake area | Choose a city-focused outing or a lake excursion; save the exact attraction entrance. |
| Danyang (단양) | Dodamsambong river scenery and Mancheonha’s viewpoint | Compare transport between your arrival point, accommodation and each attraction. |
Dodamsambong’s three rock formations rise from the Namhangang River; Mancheonha offers elevated views of the Danyang landscape. These are separate attractions, not a single walk-through venue. Use the official destination pages for current access and search 도담삼봉 or 만천하 스카이워크 to distinguish them in your map app.
Make a one-night trip work
Our suggestion is to use your arrival day for one nearby attraction and a meal, then reserve the next morning for your main scenic outing. Check where luggage can be stored before planning a viewpoint visit between trains. A hotel described as “lakeside” may make a car-based trip easier while adding transfers for a rail traveler; compare the actual road route before booking.
If combining Jecheon and Danyang, first verify the intercity connection and the local connection at both ends. Do not judge the journey by the distance between map pins. With only one day, one well-chosen area is usually easier to enjoy than several viewpoints separated by uncertain transfers.
Outdoor backup: check wind, rain and attraction notices before a cable-car or exposed-viewpoint outing. Keep a flexible meal break and a return-transport margin instead of filling every hour. These are editorial pacing suggestions, not a tested timetable.
