Village traditions beside the river

Andong is a starting point for traditional village culture and Confucian heritage. Hahoe Village is outside the city center, so plan the return journey before lingering among its historic homes and river scenery.
Don’t miss
Hahoe Village
Allow enough time for a respectful walk through the historic village.
Heritage context
Read the site interpretation rather than treating the village only as scenery.
A regional food stop
Leave time for a meal in the city before or after the village excursion.
Andong: separate Hahoe Village from a central-city visit
Hahoe Village is not a stop to add casually between a station arrival and a short meal break. Decide whether you want the village, central Andong or a longer heritage trip, and leave space for the local transfers. The choices below are editorial planning suggestions.
| Priority | Main decision | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Hahoe Village (하회마을) | Give the village and its transfer a dedicated outing. | Bus direction, return options, admission and any shuttle arrangements |
| Food and the central city | Choose a meal area and a nearby walk. | Portion size and the journey from your actual station or terminal |
| A performance | Build the outing around a confirmed session. | Date, venue, cancellation notices and whether it requires a separate ticket |
Do not copy an old bus number without checking
VISITKOREA’s current Andong overview lists several public-transport options for Hahoe Village. That is a starting point, not a live departure board. Use the exact origin and village destination in a map app and confirm the service for your travel date. Save the return stop and departure choices before leaving central Andong.
If the local connection is sparse, consider a shorter central-city plan or a properly budgeted taxi option. A rail arrival at Andong does not mean the village is within walking distance. Avoid planning a performance and a tight train connection without checking the complete return journey.
Visit a living village respectfully
Keep to public visitor routes, leave doorways clear and do not enter a home because it appears in a travel photograph. Ask before photographing residents. Wear comfortable shoes and check which paths suit your group; historic streets do not have identical surfaces or accessibility.
When ordering Andong jjimdak, confirm the serving size before choosing a shared dish. Ask about spice and ingredients if needed, and leave enough time to eat before the next bus. Our food-ordering guide provides practical phrases.
Use the NAVER Map guide and KTX booking guide for your travel plan. Gyeongju is another heritage destination to schedule separately.

What this means for your visit
Carry layers for an outing that lasts into the evening. Check the day's visibility and road conditions before a rural excursion.
Annual averages do not tell you the temperature on a particular day. Consult the KMA forecast and warnings for your destination before travel.
