Jeju City
Markets and a volcanic northern shore

The island’s northern city is more than an arrival point. Explore markets and volcanic shoreline around Yongduam, then plan wider island trips by area rather than treating all of Jeju as one compact city.
Don’t miss
Yongduam Rock
Save “Yongduam Rock” (용두암), near the airport, as a short coastal stop. Use the designated viewing area rather than stepping onto exposed rocks, especially when waves are strong.
Dongmun Traditional Market
Search “Dongmun Traditional Market” (동문재래시장) for produce, seafood and take-away snacks. The Dongmun area has several market sections; save the entrance that matches what you want to browse.
One north-side day
A market meal and a coast stop make a manageable arrival or departure day. For east or west Jeju, plan a separate day and check the return bus before leaving town.
Plan your visit
| Suggested stay | 1–2 days for the north; longer for the island |
|---|---|
| Getting around | Arrival through Jeju Airport; use local buses or suitable prearranged transport. |
| Good for | North coast · Markets · Volcanic shore |

What this means for your visit
Check wind as well as rainfall before coastal activities. These coastal-city figures do not represent Hallasan or every part of the island.
Annual averages do not tell you the temperature on a particular day. Consult the KMA forecast and warnings for your destination before travel.
A low-stress Jeju City day
If you are arriving by air or leaving the next morning, keep your first day in the north. Start with accommodation near the airport or a useful bus stop, leave luggage, and choose one city-centre market block plus one coast block. This is a suggested sequence, not a tested fixed-time itinerary.
- Market first: enter “동문재래시장” in your map app and check which market entrance and stalls you want. Dongmun is an area of adjoining market sections, so a generic pin may not lead to your intended doorway.
- Coast second: use “용두암” for Yongduam Rock. Follow the marked viewpoint and safety barriers; the visible shape depends on your viewing angle and weather.
- Return before committing to another coast: compare the route back to your hotel and the final bus in a live app. A north-side day need not include the far east or south.
| Decision | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| Late arrival | Stay near your airport transfer or Jeju City bus connection, then visit the market only if its shops are still open. |
| Without a car | Check the bus stop for each attraction, not just the attraction pin. Jeju Bus Terminal is a useful hub for longer-distance services. |
| Coastal weather | Keep the market as the indoor-leaning fallback; do not step beyond barriers at Yongduam for a photograph. |
