Getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul is easier when you plan the last part of the journey first: the trip from your arrival station or bus stop to your accommodation. A fast airport connection can still leave you with a difficult transfer or a long walk with luggage.
This guide compares AREX trains, airport buses, and taxis for a first visit. Start with your hotel address, arrival terminal, and expected time outside the arrivals hall. For the rest of your preparations, use our first trip to South Korea checklist.
Compare the complete door-to-door journey
| Option | Useful when | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| AREX Express | You want a direct rail journey to Seoul Station | Next departure, separate Express ticket and the onward route to your hotel |
| AREX All-Stop | Your destination is on its route, such as Hongik University or Gongdeok | Station exit, elevator route and walking distance with bags |
| Airport bus | A route stops close to your accommodation | Exact route and stop, terminal boarding point, last departure and road traffic |
| Taxi | You need door-to-door travel with luggage or a group | Vehicle capacity, total group cost, tolls and applicable surcharges |

Which option should you check first?
Near Seoul Station: compare the AREX Express and All-Stop services, including the next departure and your onward journey. Near Hongik University Station: check the All-Stop service, which serves that station. Near an airport-bus stop: compare the bus with a rail route. Heavy luggage or a difficult final transfer: price a suitable taxi for the whole group. These are starting points for comparing routes, rather than a universal best option.
AREX Express and All-Stop: choose the right train
The Express links Incheon Airport and Seoul Station without serving the intermediate city stations. The All-Stop service calls at stations including Gimpo Airport, Hongik University, and Gongdeok. Check the service name before buying a ticket or entering the gates. See the official Seoul tourism transport guide for the route overview.
For a Hongdae stay, look up the walk from Hongik University Station to your actual building. For a Seoul Station stay, check which exit you need. A station name in a hotel listing does not tell you how far you will carry a suitcase. Compare the complete journey instead of only the time spent on the airport train.
Both airport terminals have airport-railroad access at their B1 transportation centers. Follow the signs for your terminal and selected service. Consult the airport railroad guide and the operator for current fares and departures. Leave time to find the station and buy or collect your ticket.
Airport buses: match the stop to your hotel
A bus is worth comparing when its stop is convenient for your accommodation. Use the official airport bus search to look up your destination. The list includes routes serving areas such as Myeongdong, City Hall, and Gangnam, but the area name alone is not enough to identify the correct stop.
Write down the route number, boarding location for your terminal, destination stop, and last departure. Check the fare, ticketing method, and luggage rules with the route operator. Then map the walk from the stop to the hotel. A bus that avoids a rail transfer may be convenient, but road traffic can change the journey time.
Taxis: compare the whole-group cost
A taxi can simplify the final journey when your group has several bags or your accommodation is awkward to reach from public transport. Before choosing one, confirm that the vehicle can hold every passenger and all luggage. Save the accommodation address in Korean as well as its English name.
Use the designated taxi stands. Incheon Airport specifically advises this because of unauthorized solicitation and overcharging. Its official taxi guide lists vehicle categories, pickup areas, and surcharge rules. A displayed base fare is not the total airport-to-hotel price. Ask how the fare is calculated and whether tolls or applicable surcharges are included in an estimate.
Taxi pickup and night charges: what the signs mean
Incheon Airport’s taxi guide lists standard-taxi pickup areas as T1: 5C, 6C and 6D; T2: 7C. Follow the destination-specific signs or ask the queue staff, as taxi operating areas differ. Pre-booked taxis and international taxis have separate pickup locations.
For Seoul standard taxis, the airport lists a ₩4,800 base fare, with a 20% night surcharge from 22:00–23:00 and 02:00–04:00, and 40% from 23:00–02:00. The base fare is not the price of the full trip to Seoul. Vehicle class, distance, time and tolls affect the total; fixed-price international services use different pricing.

Arriving late: make a backup before flying
Your landing time is not the time you will reach a train platform or bus stop. Allow for immigration, baggage collection, and finding transport. Check the last usable departure for your actual terminal and destination, including any connecting service after the airport leg.
The airport bus website has separate late-night information for Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Check those listings for your travel date instead of assuming a daytime route runs overnight. If the timing is tight, save a taxi alternative or consider an airport-area overnight stay. Tell your accommodation if you may arrive after its check-in hours.
Save this arrival plan on your phone
Before departure, save your terminal, hotel address, preferred transport service, destination stop or station, and the final walking route. Add the last usable departure, a backup option, and the accommodation contact details. Keep an offline copy so that finding mobile data is not a prerequisite for reaching your bed.
Use our NAVER Map guide to find your hotel by its Korean address, check the station exit, and plan the final walk from your arrival stop.
Final check: compare total cost for your group, total walking with bags, transfers, and the next available departure. These details matter more than choosing the option with the shortest advertised airport journey.
