Gangneung Travel Guide
Gyeongpo coast, Anmok coffee and getting around

Plan Gangneung around one stretch of coast instead of assuming every beach and landmark is close together. This guide compares a Gyeongpo beach walk with Anmok coffee stops, explains how to think about the onward trip from Gangneung Station, and links to transport planning. Check a live route before pairing coastal and inland sights; a short distance on a map may still require a transfer.
Don’t miss
Gyeongpo coast
Take a beach walk and enjoy the coastal landscape without an overfilled itinerary.
Anmok coffee stops
Make time to sit down by the coast rather than turning every cafe into a photo stop.
Coastal wandering
Choose nearby stops that work together and keep a rain alternative in reserve.

Choose one stretch of coast, then add a cultural stop
Gangneung Station, Gyeongpo Lake, Anmok Beach and Jumunjin Port are not one continuous walking route. The easiest first day pairs a heritage stop with one coast section. Save the northbound harbor area for a separate outing if you have more time.

| Cluster | What to do | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| History and lake | Choose Ojukheon or Seongyojang, then continue toward Gyeongpo Lake and the beach. | Pick one heritage site if your arrival is late; keep time for the lake or shore instead of rushing both. |
| Anmok waterfront | Walk by the sea and choose a cafe on Anmok Coffee Street. | Check the return bus or taxi plan before settling in, especially if you stay past sunset. |
| North coast | Jumunjin Port and the nearby market area show a working-harbor side of the city. | Make it a separate northbound trip rather than assuming it is next to Anmok or Gyeongpo. |
From the station to your first stop
Before leaving Gangneung Station, search for the Korean name of your actual destination—not just “Gangneung Beach.” For Gyeongpo, Anmok and Jumunjin, compare a live local-bus route with a taxi route for your luggage and group size. Save the return stop as well as the outbound one; opposite-direction stops are not always obvious near the coast.
If you prefer fewer transfers, Gangneung City publishes foreign-visitor touring-taxi routes and reservation details. These are specific bookable products, not a guarantee that an ordinary taxi will follow the same route or price. Check the official terms before relying on them.
Stay for the trip you actually planned
Downtown near the station or market is convenient for rail and meals. Gyeongpo suits a lake-and-beach morning; Anmok suits a coffee-and-sea evening. Compare the exact property pin with your chosen coast section. In spring, a lake walk can still be windy; summer brings busier beaches; autumn and winter can reward a clear seaside view but call for a warm layer. Check beach notices and do not approach rough water for a photograph.

What this means for your visit
A coastal walk and a mountain excursion need different weather checks. Follow beach notices and do not approach rough water for photos.
Annual averages do not tell you the temperature on a particular day. Consult the KMA forecast and warnings for your destination before travel.
